Zhang Jie (1937- )

Zhang Jie was born on April 27, 1937 in Beijing. After she graduated from People's University in 1960 with a degree in economics, she started working in Machine Building Industry. In 1978 she published her first work, "The Music of the Forests" about a musician who, having been persecuted during the Cultural Revolution, loves his art all the more. It won the National Best Short Story Prize in 1978. Her works include "Love Must not be Forgotten," "Leaden Wings," and "Ark." She is now a full-time writer at the Beijing branch of the Chinese Writers' Association.
